About wit incorporated

wit incorporated is an artist-led theatre ensemble, based in Footscray; the heart of Melbourne’s inner-west.

We prize story over spectacle, and we keep our budgets small. For us, the quality of performance and storytelling must always come first.

We are, and always will be, run by artists from within the ensemble. Our management team (current Artistic Director and Company Manager, to expand to include Marketing Manager and Front-of-House Manager) will always be actors or other theatre-makers. Those roles are currently non-paying roles, but will be the first to be salaried when our budget allows for it.

Actors do more than just show up to rehearsals and performances and act. They publicise shows within their networks, bump in and out, get posters and flyers out around Melbourne, and can take on production roles

We work hard to encourage new audiences to experience theatre. We recognise that theatre is not something we want people to feel like they ‘should’ see, but great entertainment in its own right. We know that our competition is not a philosophy lecture, but a night at the pub, the movies, or whatever is on television.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Solid understanding of theatre as an artform, with either strong training or performance experience
  • A real love for theatre and storytelling
  • Creativeapproach to opportunities and issues

We encourage applications from indigenous women, women of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQI women, and women with a disability.

The application process

1. Information package (you are here)

Make sure you have read this information thoroughly, and checked out our website and social media channels, so you get a feel for what we’re all about.

2. Application

Send us your application, including answers to all of our application questions, your resume and current headshot. Make sure you get your application to us by Saturday, 11 February.

3. Audition

If we think your application is a good fit, we’ll be in touch to arrange an audition. We’d like to see two pieces that show off your range and skill.

The questions

When you get in touch with your application, make sure you answer all of these questions. They're the start of what we need to know from you.

  • Why do you want to work with an artist-led theatre ensemble?
  • How much time do you expect to invest in the show, if you are cast?
  • What has been your favourite project to work on, and why?
  • What are your goals as a theatre maker?
  • Please supply contact details for three referees that you have worked with.
