Lansy Feng is an actor, writer, story-telling singer, and theatre-maker. She is Wit’s Artistic Director, and she knows how to turn a dish rack into a coffee machine.

How did you come to work with Wit?

I met one of the co-founders, JP at school. That's how I know about Wit. Then I worked on a show with them and now I'm a Wit!

What made you want to start writing as well as performing?

I write to not just create more performing opportunities, but also to tell my stories, introduce my heritage, culture and background. We are lucky to be in Melbourne, a multicultural city. I aim to contribute by introducing more of my Taiwanese culture through stories/plays and songs.

What projects are you excited about this year (Wit or otherwise)?

I'm very excited about the original play 'Dear Mama, There's Something Maybe I Should Tell You...'. It is inspired by my own story. A journey of a Taiwanese girl, from a small town and a strict family, escaped home to come to Melbourne.

What does making theatre mean to you?

It means the world to me. There's no limit to your creativity. You can use any way you can think of to tell your stories, express yourself and communicate with the audience and get a response right away. Even working on a shoestring budget, actually especially working on a shoestring budget, it pushes you to problem solve and you manage to turn an old dishes drying rack into a coffee machine.

Who inspires you?

So so many people! I think I'm very lucky to meet many amazing teachers/artists in life.
